Diagnostic ultrasound transducers used for various clinical applications are required to be cleaned and high-level disinfected (HLD) after each use. To address the workflow of this process, several automated cleaning and high-level probe disinfecting devices have been developed and introduced into the hospital, accelerated to some degree by the COVID pandemic. These devices have become a source of frustration for many HTM professionals who are often charged with their technical management, including installation, acceptance testing, preventative maintenance, and, in some cases, repair, yet do not receive much support from the OEMs who make the devices. This session will review the background and standards for these devices.
